Mahmoud El Zain Hamid

Mahmoud El Zain Hamid works as Assistant Professor in the Department of Environment, Peace and Security/University for Peace.
Professor Hamid has a Ph.D. in the Institute of Social Studies, in The Hague, The Netherlands, 2007. His Ph.D. research focus is on environmental scarcity and hydropolitics in the Nile Basin, exploring the impact of mass population displacement and settlement along the River Nile and its tributaries on domestic and foreign policy of riparian states. He has an M.Sc. in political Science, Graduate College, University of Khartoum, 1995 and an MA in Politics of Alternative Development Strategies, Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, 1996. He worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, for different intervals between Oct. 2001 and Dec. 2004. He also worked as a teaching assistant at the Department of Political Science, University of Khartoum in the period between 1991 and 1995. His research interests include issues of "hydropolitics, environment and sustainable development", "the political potential of environmental risks", "conflict and conflict transformation", and "socio-cultural displacement and the political potential of population movements".
