UPEACE Head Quarters are in San Jose, Costa Rica; its mission is to oversees the different offices and projects around the world as well, as provide higher educational programmes through its MA programmes in Costa Rica.
UPEACE founders are former president of Costa Rica Rodrigo Carazo and former assistant for the Secretary General Robert Muller. Carazo recognized the value of an international organization and Muller recognized the value of establishing a university that could be a place for inspiration where students can talk about their greater fears, hopes and aspirations; where they could work together through respectful dialogue to contribute to the emergence of a global culture of peace.
This is implemented through three main areas: Peace and Conflict Studies, International Law and Environment and Development. These activities include master programmes, diplomas, short courses and academic partnerships with institutions from the United Nations system and other academic institutions.
