On 22 May, the 24th Session of the Council of the University for Peace was held at its campus in El Rodeo de Mora. The meeting was chaired by H. E. Aristides Royo, President of the Council and former President of Panama who welcomed the 14 members who attended the session. Both, the Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, ASG Judy Cheng-Hopkins, and the Representative of the Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Pilar Alvarez-Laso, participated at this session.
In compliance with the provisions established in the Charter of the University for Peace, the Government of the Host Country designated its representatives to the Council, who also attended this session. They are Costa Rica’s First Lady Mercedes Peñas, UPEACE Alumna, and Dr. Juany Guzmán León, tenured professor at the University of Costa Rica in the field of Political Sciences.
