Dean of the University for Peace delivered a lecture on Human Rights Education at the Colombian Diplomatic Academy

 

  • UPEACE strengthens the possibility of new areas of cooperation with the Colombian Diplomatic Academy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Bogota, Colombia. May 10, 2016. Diplomat and professor, Juan Carlos Sáinz-Borgo, Dean for Cooperation Affairs of the University for Peace (UPEACE), delivered a lecture on “Education for Peace in times of post-conflict, the experience of the University for Peace”, at the Diplomatic Academy, Augusto Ramírez Ocampo, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia.

Dr. Sáinz-Borgo mentioned some of the collaborative programs that the University for Peace develops with the Colombian State and the possibility of finding new areas of cooperation with their Diplomatic Academy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also referred to the mission of the University, founded in 1980 by resolution 35/55 as an initiative of the UN General Assembly. This mission is "to promote among human beings the spirit of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, to stimulate cooperation and remove obstacles and threats to world peace and progress."

The conference was attended by the Director of the Colombian Diplomatic Academy, Ambassador Mrs. Martha Pinilla; the Director of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, Dr. Mónica Fonseca; Ambassador María del Pilar Gómez; Welfare Academic Coordinator of the Diplomatic Academy, Howell Ricardo Quimbaya as well as members of the diplomatic corps and other special guests.
