15 December 2010 - UPEACE Campus, Costa Rica.

The Rodrigo Carazo Odio Campus of the University for Peace (UPEACE) received the visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, H.E. Taemyon Kwon, for a ceremonial raising of Korea´s national flag in UPEACE's "Garden of Nations".

The International University of Monaco (IUM - part of the French INSEEC Group) and the United Nations-mandated University for Peace (UPeace) in Costa Rica will join forces under the guidance and leadership of “Peace and Sport, l’Organisation pour la Paix par le Sport” to develop an innovative Master’s degree in Sustainable Peace through Sport (MSPS).

UPEACE Postgraduate students and Faculty from 32 countries, representing the continents of Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe, will be accredited by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Costa Rica (TSE) to be observers in the upcoming municipal elections of 5 December 2010. In total, UPEACE will contribute 67 accredited observers to this democratic effort.

The course hopes to inspire participants with an entrepreneurial spirit, help gain an understanding of the challenges of the start-up process, offer space and structure for participants to begin developing their own business plan for a socially beneficial venture, and think about the complexities of managing it.

On Monday 18 October the UN-Mandated University for Peace (UPEACE) organized the Commencement Ceremony of its third cohort of graduates from the Asia Leaders Programme (ALP).

On 18 August 2010 UPEACE received a new group of students, each of whom has enrolled in a UPEACE MA degree programme.

The exhibition consists of 45 photographs taken by and of refugees that have made a life for themselves since their relocation to Costa Rica under the auspices of UNHCR.

This event builds on the research work of a 2009 UPEACE graduate, Ms. Morea D. Steinhauer, which demonstrated the impact of photojournalism as a social research tool.

The second cohort of a Joint Master’s degree in Peace and Security offered by the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa University and the University for Peace (UPEACE) graduation took place on Saturday 24 July 2010.

As part of the event, UPEACE awarded the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa in Humanities” to President Chinchilla in recognition of her leadership on matters of human security, peace and democracy as well as her commitment to public service and her achievement of being the first woman elected President of the Republic of Costa Rica.
