25 May, 2014. Boston, Massachusetts. The University for Peace (UPEACE) is pleased to announce its participation at the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs (NAFSA) Annual Conference and Expo in Boston, MA between May 24 and 29.
UPEACE represented Costa Rica alongside the Latin American University of Science and Technology (ULACIT) the Ibero-American University (UNIBE), EARTH University (EARTH), The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE), the Costa Rican Technological Institute (TEC), Veritas University, and the Central American Autonomous University (UACA).
The Costa Rican universities’ participation was coordinated by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Corporation (PROCOMER).
The National Association for Foreign Student Affairs (NAFSA) Annual Conference and Expo NAFSA offers learning and networking opportunities for senior international officers, presidents, provosts, and other institutional leaders within the academia sector.
The yearly event is the largest gathering of international educators in the world, hosting over 7,000 participants from all over the world, including the United States, Qatar, Russia, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Singapore, and China, among others.
Currently, Costa Rica is one of the top study abroad destinations in Latin America for U.S. students, and the study abroad industry represents a growing and important sector of the national economy.
UPEACE was established in 1980 under United Nations resolution 35/55, which called for a treaty organization to “support the central Peace and Security Objectives of the United Nations through a World-Wide Movement of Education for Peace.” UPEACE activities include teaching, research, distance learning, and outreach; it offers Master’s Degree Programmes in a number of fields within Peace and Conflict Studies for students from all parts of the world.
