6-7 December 2017, Beijing, China – The Rector of the University for Peace (UPEACE), Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, had the privilege to take part in the 10th International Roundtable of Multinational Corporations’ Leaders, an event hosted by the China International Council for the Promotion of Multinational Corporations (CICPMC). The University for Peace and the CICPMC signed a cooperation agreement in 2017 and its Executive Vice President, Mr. Xiaoyu Zhang, was recently nominated to the Council of the University for Peace by H.E. Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General.
The theme of the event was “New Era, New Goals, Multinational Corporation’s Opportunities and Development,” with sponsors including the CICPMC, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Global Compact Office, and the UN-mandated University for Peace.
Dr. Rojas made the opening remarks on the second day of the event, including the honour of reading H.E. Antonio Guterres’ message to the event’s participants. You can find the UNSG’s message here.
In addition to attending the CICPMC’s event, Rector Rojas had the opportunity to meet with Costa Rican Ambassador to China, H.E. Patricia Rodriguez, visit the University of International Business and Economics, confer with representatives from the Belt and Road Arbitration Court initiative, and meet with the China Scholarship Council, in an effort to secure a number of scholarships for Chinese students to pursue their graduate degrees at UPEACE.
Rector Rojas also paid official visits to Good Ark Electronics in Suzhou, China, and to Datong International Port Services in Datong, China, as well as to Tianjin, China, during which he was able to learn a great deal about traditional Chinese culture and modern Chinese business practices.

Rector Francisco Rojas en la Décima Mesa Redonda Internacional de Líderes de Corporaciones Multinacionales, organizada por el CICPMC, en Beijing, China
6-7 diciembre 2017, Beijing, China – El Rector de la Universidad para la Paz (UPAZ), Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, tuvo el privilegio de participar en la Décima Mesa Redonda Internacional de Líderes de Corporaciones Multinacionales, un evento organizado por el Consejo Internacional Chino para la Promoción de Corporaciones Multinacionales (CICPMC por sus siglas en inglés). La UPAZ y el CICPMC firmaron un acuerdo de cooperación en el 2017 y su Vice-Presidente Ejecutivo, el señor Xiaoyu Zhang, fue recientemente nominado por S.E. Antonio Guterres, Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas, para miembro del Consejo de la Universidad.
El tema de este evento fue “Nueva Era, Nuevas Metas, Oportunidades de las Corporaciones Multinacionales y el Desarrollo”, y los patrocinadores incluyeron el CICPMC, el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo, la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre Comercio y Desarrollo, el Programa de Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente, la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo Industrial, el Pacto Mundial de las Naciones Unidas y la Universidad para la Paz de las Naciones Unidas.
El Dr. Rojas pronunció las palabras de bienvenida en el segundo día del evento, y tuvo el honor de leer un mensaje enviado por S.E. Antonio Guterres para los participantes. Puede leer el mensaje del SG de la ONU aquí (en inglés).
Además de participar en el evento del CICPMC, el Rector Rojas tuvo la oportunidad de reunirse con la Embajadora de Costa Rica en China, S.E. Patricia Rodríguez. También visitó la Universidad Internacional de Negocios y Economía (UIBE por sus siglas en inglés); se reunió con representantes de la iniciativa Corte de Arbitraje de la Nueva Ruta de la Seda y también con el Consejo de Becas Chino, en un esfuerzo por asegurar un número de becas para estudiantes chinos que quieran hacer programas de maestría en la Universidad para la Paz.
El Rector Rojas también aprovechó para hacer visitas oficiales a la fábrica Good Ark Electronics en Suzhou y a Datong International Port Services en Datong, así como al municipio de Tianjin. Durante su visita, el Rector tuvo la oportunidad de aprender mucho sobre la cultura tradicional china y sus prácticas modernas de negocios.
