26 June, 2018. University for Peace Campus – The University for Peace celebrated this year’s commencement ceremony in its Rodrigo Carazo Campus in El Rodeo de Mora, San Jose. Nobel Peace Laureate, Ouided Bouchamaoui, delivered the Keynote Speech to more than 130 students from 49 different countries. While most of the graduates are in the 26-35 age bracket, this year there were three students between the ages of 56 and 66. Also, 70% of the students are female.
Ms. Bouchamaoui is the co-laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize 2015. She was elected President of the Tunisian Confederacy of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) in May 2011 and was the first woman elected to this position in the Arab World. While she was a member of the National Dialogue Quartet, she played a historic and legendary role in helping her country navigate through a great time of crisis during the Arab spring and was a key player in helping her country of Tunisia develop a more transparent and collaborative society with democratic processes, a constitutional framework and transparent elections.
Ouided Bouchamaoui is now a member of UPEACE’s governing council. During the Commencement ceremony, she delivered an emotional speech to an audience composed of members of the UPEACE Council, Costa Rican government officials and diplomatic corps, UPEACE faculty and staff, and students and their friends and family:
“Your Institution is an example.
One of those we dream about… And the dream comes true!
Its reputation shines all over the World,
demonstrating a will of tolerance,
understanding of different cultures
and an awareness to reinforce shared values as an aim for peaceful and democratic societies.
Because, never in the history of mankind have the subjects of education and peace
been so acutely and seriously felt.”
Another highlight of the ceremony was the Doctorate degree granted to Venezuelan student Mariateresa Garrido. Mariateresa is the first female to receive a Doctorate degree from the University for Peace.
After a delightful show of Costa Rican traditional dances, guests enjoyed a cocktail on the terrace.

Premio Nobel de la Paz, Ouided Bouchamaoui, pronuncia discurso principal en Ceremonia de Graduación de UPAZ
26 de junio de 2018. Campus de la Universidad para la Paz - La Universidad para la Paz celebró la ceremonia de graduación de este año en su Campus Rodrigo Carazo en El Rodeo de Mora, San José. La Premio Nobel de la Paz, Ouided Bouchamaoui, pronunció el Discurso Magistral a más de 130 estudiantes de 49 países diferentes. Si bien la mayoría de los graduados se encuentran entre los 26 y los 35 años, este año hubo tres estudiantes entre las edades de 56 y 66 años. Además, el 70% de los estudiantes son mujeres.
La Sra. Bouchamaoui es co-ganadora del Premio Nobel de la Paz 2015. En mayo de 2011, fue elegida Presidente de la Confederación de Industria, Comercio y Artesanías de Túnez (UTICA por sus siglas en inglés), convirtiéndola en la primera mujer elegida para esta posición en el mundo árabe. Mientras fue miembro del Cuarteto Nacional de Diálogo, jugó un papel histórico y legendario al ayudar a su país a atravesar un gran momento de crisis durante la primavera árabe y fue una pieza clave para ayudar a Túnez a desarrollar una sociedad más transparente y colaborativa, con procesos democráticos, un marco constitucional y elecciones transparentes.
Ouided Bouchamaoui ahora es miembro del consejo de gobierno de la UPAZ. Durante la ceremonia de graduación, ella pronunció un emotivo discurso a una audiencia compuesta por miembros del Consejo de la UPAZ, funcionarios del gobierno de Costa Rica y del cuerpo diplomático, facultad y personal de la UPAZ, estudiantes y sus familiares y amigos:
"Su Institución es un ejemplo.
Uno de esos con los que soñamos ... ¡Y el sueño se hace realidad!
Su reputación brilla en todo el mundo,
demostrando una voluntad de tolerancia,
comprensión de diferentes culturas
y una conciencia para reforzar los valores compartidos como un objetivo para las sociedades pacíficas y democráticas.
Porque, nunca en la historia de la humanidad han sido tan sentidos los temas de educación y paz. "
Otro punto destacado de la ceremonia fue el título de Doctorado otorgado a la estudiante venezolana Mariateresa Garrido. Mariateresa es la primera mujer en recibir un doctorado de la Universidad para la Paz.
Después de un espectáculo de danzas tradicionales costarricenses, los invitados disfrutaron de un cóctel en la terraza.
