San José, Costa Rica – Este miércoles el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas (SNU) en Costa Rica celebró el Día Internacional de Naciones Unidas en el marco del 70 Aniversario de la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos. La ONU destacó que el mundo tiene prioridades trascendentales que debe impulsar, tales como el fortalecimiento del multilateralismo, el cumplimiento de la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible.
Asimismo, apeló por la salvaguarda de los Derechos Humanos, especialmente de las poblaciones históricamente excluidas: mujeres y niñas, pueblos indígenas y afro descendientes, personas con discapacidad, comunidad LGBTIQ, personas adultas mayores, migrantes y refugiadas. Estas últimas dos motivaron la creación de la campaña “#PAÍSESHERMANOS”, del SNU en Costa Rica.
En ese sentido, durante la conmemoración el Presidente de la República, Carlos Alvarado, expresó que Costa Rica es un país de tránsito y destino de las migraciones y que por sus principios, nunca ha sido indiferente a esta realidad.
En Costa Rica más del 10% de la población es migrante, sin contar los 3.9 millones de turistas que recibe al año. El 11% de PIB proviene de la migración laboral y el 33% del PIB directamente del turismo. El mundo tiene 244 millones de migrantes internacionales, es decir 1 de cada 30 personas, y más de 68.5 millones de personas desplazadas, 25 millones de personas refugiadas.

Como parte de su compromiso para no dejar a nadie atrás y fortaleciendo los valores de inclusión y no discriminación, esta iniciativa hace un llamado al amor, la hermandad y la sororidad, la inclusión, el respeto a los derechos humanos y a la no discriminación de personas migrantes y refugiadas, condiciones necesarias para el cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible.
La organización señaló que con esta campaña se pretende sensibilizar a la población enfocando en el rostro humano de las personas refugiadas y migrantes, retratando historias, logros, sentimientos y aportes al país.
Alice Shackelford, Coordinadora Residente de la ONU en Costa Rica destacó que los países más que nunca requieren unirse y trabajar juntos para encontrar soluciones globales a sus desafíos y que por tal razón, las Naciones Unidas, sus valores y principios, son ahora más vigentes y necesarios que nunca.
“Costa Rica es reconocido internacionalmente por su compromiso con los derechos humanos y la solidaridad y esta campaña se enfoca en resaltar tales principios. Estamos a favor del amor, el respeto a la diversidad y en contra de todo tipo de racismo, intolerancia y xenofobia. En Costa Rica no cabe el odio, la violencia y la discriminación. Las y los costarricenses son personas respetuosas y solidarias y en esta campaña también se resalta eso”, indicó Alice Shackelford.
#PAÍSESHERMANOS promoverá durante los próximos meses historias de vida y las principales contribuciones sociales, económicas, culturales, deportivas y de todo tipo, que las personas migrantes y refugiadas y sus descendientes están aportando al país. También la campaña mostrará historias de personas costarricenses que han sido migrantes.
La Organización de las Naciones Unidas se fundó en el año de 1945 con el objetivo de promover la paz, la seguridad, la justicia y el desarrollo para todas las naciones. Su carta constitutiva fue firmada por 51 países fundadores, siendo Costa Rica uno de ellos. Hoy son 193 países que conforman esta organización.
Tal como destacó el Secretario General de la Organización de la Naciones Unidas, António Guterres “las desigualdades están aumentando, los impactos del cambio climático también crecen, millones de personas se están movilizando para escapar de los conflictos y buscar mejores condiciones de vida. El abordaje de estos temas no puede realizarse de manera individual por los países, sino que requiere de una acción multilateral que impulse respuestas globales e integradas, que aseguren la paz, la seguridad, la protección de los derechos humanos y el cumplimiento de la agenda de desarrollo sostenible”.

United Nations: "We cannot give up: sustainable development, human rights and inclusion are priority"
• #PAÍSESHERMANOS: The UN campaign in Costa Rica that calls for love, inclusion and non-discrimination of migrants and refugees

San Jose, Costa Rica - This Wednesday, the United Nations System (UNS) in Costa Rica celebrated the International Day of the United Nations in the framework of the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The UN stressed that the world has transcendental priorities that it must promote, such as the strengthening of multilateralism and the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Likewise, the UN also appealed for the safeguarding of Human Rights, especially of the historically excluded populations: women and girls, indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples, people with disabilities, the LGBTIQ community, the elderly, migrants and refugees. These last two motivated the creation of the campaign "#PAÍSESSHERMANOS", of the SNU in Costa Rica.
In that sense, during the commemoration the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, said that Costa Rica is a country of transit and destination of migrations and that by its principles, has never been indifferent to this reality.

As part of its commitment to leave no one behind and strengthen the values of inclusion and non-discrimination, this initiative calls for love, brotherhood and sorority, inclusion, respect for human rights and non-discrimination of people migrants and refugees, necessary conditions for the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The organization said that this campaign aims to raise awareness among the population by focusing on the human face of refugees and migrants, portraying stories, achievements, feelings and contributions to the country.
Alice Shackelford, UN Resident Coordinator in Costa Rica stressed that countries more than ever need to join and work together to find global solutions to their challenges and that for this reason, the United Nations, its values and principles, are now more effective and necessary than never.
"Costa Rica is internationally recognized for its commitment to human rights and solidarity and this campaign focuses on highlighting such principles. We are in favor of love, respect for diversity and against all kinds of racism, intolerance and xenophobia. In Costa Rica there is no room for hatred, violence and discrimination. Costa Ricans are respectful and supportive people and this campaign also highlights that, " said Alice Shackelford.
#PAÍSESHERMANOS will promote during the next months the life stories and the main social, economic, cultural, sports and all kinds of contributions that migrants and refugees and their descendants are contributing to the country. The campaign will also show stories of Costa Rican people who have been migrants.

As the Secretary-General, António Guterres pointed out, "inequalities are increasing, the impact of climate change is also growing, millions of people are mobilizing to escape conflicts and seek better living conditions. The approach to these issues cannot be carried out individually by the countries, but requires multilateral action that promotes global and integrated responses that ensure peace, security, protection of human rights and compliance with the agenda of sustainable development".
