Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is leaving for New York on Saturday leading the Nepali delegation to the 73rd Session of United Nations General Assembly. The prime minister will be accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya.
The High Level Segment of the UNGA will begin on September 25 with the theme ‘Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies’.
PM Oli will address the UNGA on September 27 and will hold a bilateral meeting with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres the same day, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Oli will also address high-level plenary meeting of the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit being organised to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela on September 24.
PM Oli and Shakya will attend the reception to be hosted by US President Donald Trump in the evening of September 24. He will join the luncheon hosted by the UN Secretary General on September 25.The PM will deliver a statement at the High Level Meeting on Action for Peacekeeping being hosted by the UN Secretary General on September 24. The same day, PM Oli will deliver a public lecture on the theme ‘Peace, Democracy and Development’ at the Asia Society. The event will be moderated by former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd.
On the sidelines of the UNGA, Oli will hold bilateral meetings with Switzerland President Alain Berset on September 24 and with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech aka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen on September 28.
PM Oli will leave New York for San Jose, Costa Rica, on September 29 on an official bilateral visit. He will hold a bilateral meeting with Costa Rica President Carlos Alvarado Quesada and will address the University for Peace in San Jose.
The prime minister and his delegation will depart for Kathmandu on October 3.
Separately, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali will participate, among others, in the ministerial meetings of the group of NAM, G77, LDC, LLDC and Group of Friends of Mediation. Gyawali will also host informal ministerial meeting of SAARC on September 27.
The Nepali delegation to the 73rd UNGA will include Gyawali, PM’s Chief Adviser Bishnu Rimal, and other senior officials of the government.
