Professor Miriam Estrada was invited by the National Union of Cuban Jurists and the United Nations to participate at a Conference in Cuba

May 13, 2016. La Havana Cuba. Professor Miriam Estrada-Castillo was invited by the National Union of Cuban Jurists and the United Nations to attend a Conference organised under the title "Analysis of Challenges and Achievements on the celebration of the 60 years of the establishment of the UN Commission of the Status of Women:  achievement of Equality for Women and Children in compliance with International Law”; held in Hotel Habana Libre in Havana, Cuba. 

The Conference brought together representatives of Iberoamerican governments, academia, national and international experts and members of the civil society.

Professor Estrada participated as a keynote speaker with the Conference titled: "Counterterrorism measures and their worldwide impact in the Criminal Legal System analysed from the gender perspective."

In addition, Professor Estrada and other experts of the UN Committee for the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) offered two workshops in the Faculties of Law of the University of La Habana and the University of Santa Clara, explaining CEDAW methodology and the procedures on the presentation of complaints utilising its Optional Protocol.

An examination of the adoption process of the Optional Protocol was shared by Professor Estrada as a former member of the Committee's Group of Experts who drafted the CEDAW Optional Protocol.
