14 November 2016. University for Peace Campus - From november 14 to 17, highschool teachers from Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Belice, El Salvador, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic gathered at the University for Peace to learn and share best practices at the TeachHer workshop. These educators committed to educating and empowering, female students between the ages of 13 and 16 on issues of human rights, peace and citizenship.
The workshop was promoted by the State Department of the United States through its mission in UNESCO with the support of UPEACE, the US Embassy in Costa Rica, the Office of the First Lady of Costa Rica, the Costa Rican Education Ministry and Science and Technology Ministry, FLACSO Argentina, Microsoft and Venture Lab.
This initiative, was supported by the second lady of the United States Dr. Jill Biden; the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova; and the first lady of Costa Rica and UPEACE Alumna, Mrs. Mercedes Peñas Domingo.
The workshop, which was held through the week, had the participation of more than 100 teachers from Central America. This same workshop was held in Ethiopia and there are plans to repeate it in other parts of the world.
During the event the teachers had the opportunity to learn from important representatives of the educational, technological and cultural sector. They also enjoyed the campus and had the opportunity to interact with the students of the different Masters and Doctorate programmes with whom they exchanged knowledge and experiences.
At the end of the event, the teachers thanked the organizers, UPEACE Rector and Laura Arroyo, project coordinator of the institution for welcoming them and offering them a great learning opportunity.
