The Council of the University for Peace (UPEACE) Held its Twenty-Seventh Session

21-22 June, 2016. Rodrigo Carazo Odio Campus, San José, Costa Rica. The 27th Session of the Council of the University for Peace was held on the UPEACE Campus on 21 and 22 June 2016. The purpose of this meetings was to review the activities developed since the previous session - held last October- and to inform the Council about the main activities planned for the upcoming academic and fiscal years, as well as to request their orientations on the new initiatives currently under development.

The Council highlighted and thanked all UPEACE Staff Members involved for the quality of the work carried out and contributed very significantly towards generating guidelines for improving our work in order to achieve these new goals.

UPEACE Administration emphasized the work it has been carrying out and the guidance provided by the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in planning its initiatives and allowing it to advance in the central objective of this University: "If we want peace, we must prepare for peace."

The University had the great honour of hosting the following Council Members at this session: Mercedes Peñas Domingo, First Lady of Costa Rica, Costa Rican Government Representativa; Hal Klepak, Professor Emeritus of History and Strategy, Royal Military College of Canada, and President of the Council; Fernando Blasco, Director, UN Chef de Cabinet, Vice-President of the Council; Francisco Rojas, Rector, University for Peace; Pilar Álvarez-Laso, Representative, UNESCO Director-General; David Malone, Rector, United Nations University;  Wakako Hironaka, Former Member, House of Councillors of Japan; and Narinder Kakar, UPEACE Representative in New York.

The next session of the Council will be held in New York City in June 2017.
