The Rector of the University for Peace completes successful tour of Asia

16 December 2017, Asia - The Rector of the University for Peace, Francisco Rojas, successfully cumpleted his tour of different Asian Contries where he met with government officials and UPEACE Alumni.

As part of the negotiations with the Chinese government, Rector Rojas met with Mr. Fang Jun, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education of the People´s Republic of China. Mr Fang Jun highlighted the uniqueness of the University for Peace because of its United Nations General Assembly mandate and its aim of educating professionals in peace and the way it works with international cooperation.  He also referred to the aim of educating professionals in subjects related to Ppeace and its strong focus on projects and international cooperation. In the reunion cooperation possibilities between the People´s Republic of China and UPEACE were discussed. 

Rector Rojas also had the priviledge of meeting with three Alumni in Siem Reap, Cambodia. He had the oportunity to learn more about the very relevant proyects each of them is developing in relation to the Peace Museum of Cambodia. The activities developed by this centre, located in Siem Reap, have the aim of reaching national reconciliation processes hand in hand with local communities. The centre also develops activities promoted in Sri Lanka.

To finish his tour, Rector Rojas was received by UPEACE Alumni in Hanoi, Vietnam. The students hosted an New Years Eve Party and offered their hospitality and kindness to the Rector and his wife. They were able to discuss several topics about the current state of international relations. The Rector had the chance to learn more about what they are doing in their country. It should be noted that some of them are currently holding key positions at Amnesty International, UN Women and other international organizations working in development subjects.
