
January 13, 2017. University for Peace Campus, San Jose, Costa Rica - Dr. Mohammed Ihsan, current President of the International University of Erbil in Iraq, and Dr. Maria Rita Corticelli, director of the Center for Genocide Studies at the same institution, visited UPEACE this month to talk to students about genocide and crimes of war in today’s world.
Dr. Ihsan holds a PhD in International Law and another PhD (Exon) in Arab and Islamic Studies and has written books and articles about Kurdistan and Iraq. His latest investigations revolve around genocide and war crimes.
Dr. Corticelli has a PhD in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently a PhD candidate in Middle Eastern Studies. He has published research on cultural, political and social issues regarding Latin America and the Middle East.
Their visit concluded with the signing of an agreement to encourage the exchange of students and professors between UPEACE and the International University of Erbil. Dr. Ihsan also commented on the “quality” of the students at UPEACE, their eagerness to learn and their “level of education”.
