15 November 2015. University for Peace Campus - The University for Peace is pleased to announce that it has launched an initiative focusing on greater engagement with students, professionals and universities in India. The initiative includes the establishment of a summer school programme for Indian students at its Rodrigo Carazo campus in Costa Rica, planned for June 2016. This initiative will explore the potential areas of collaboration and cooperation within India with relevant constituencies including universities, think-tanks, foundations, and professional organizations. India, the largest democracy in the world, is a party to the International Agreement Establishing the University for Peace, and is a key actor in global efforts for maintenance of international peace and security, including significant contributions through peacekeeping forces. Although engagements in the past have included partnerships with a few prestigious Indian Universities such as the Banaras Hindu University and the Jawaharlal Nehru University, this initiative aims at boosting the relationship with important constituencies in India. In particular, the initiative will seek to partner with Indian educational institutions to establish Joint/Dual master’s degree programmes in face-to-face and online formats, in addition to the establishment of a summer school on contemporary issues of global significance.
The Initiative will be led in India by Mr. Syed Mohammad Ali, a UPEACE Alum, who will work with the Office of the Dean for International Cooperation, led by Dr. Juan Carlos Sainz Borgo. Mr. Ali will also be supported in the initiative by Prof. Mihir Kanade, Head of the UPEACE Department of International Law and Human Rights.
