- UPEACE Masters Programmes Receives SINAES Accreditation
16 May 2014. University for Peace Campus - The University for Peace received official accreditation from SINAES (National System of Accreditation of Higher Education) for its masters programmes within the Environment, Development and Peace Department. These four programmes are now the only master degrees in Costa Rica which hold such prestigious accreditation.
The accredited Masters degrees include: Environmental Security and Peace, Natural Resources and Sustainable Development, Natural Resources and Peace, and Environmental Security and Peace with Specialization in Climate Change.
The four certificates of accreditation were formally presented by the SINAES Council to the University for Peace at Rodrigo Carazo Campus, located in Ciudad Colón.
Álvaro Cedeño Gómez, vice president of the SINAES Council, emphasized the importance of the accreditation process on improving the quality of education in the country:
"To date, we have 78 undergraduate programs who hold the official SINAES accreditation. We are proud to add our first graduate programs to the list, which demonstrates the importance of higher education in Costa Rica," said Cedeño.
Current students of the Environment, Development and Peace Department attended the ceremony. Nicole Szucs Guzman from Bolivia represented the students in a speech delivered in both Spanish and English, in which she affirmed the students’ excitement and pride about the accreditation of their programmes.
Francisco Rojas Aravena, Rector of the University for Peace, also stressed the importance of this achievement for the institution.
He said: “Postgraduate degrees are attracting more students, which is why the quality of our programs, signified by this accreditation, has been a priority of UPEACE. We hope that with more accreditations in higher education, Costa Rica will soon be regarded as an international hub of institutions of great excellence.”
