24 October 2018. New York City - This morning, Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, Rector of the University for Peace (UPEACE) and Dr. Vanya Quiñones, Provost and EVP for Academic Affairs at Pace University, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of promoting joint academic initiatives in the fields of international environmental law, education on climate change and energy law, the law and policy of sustainable development and other related subjects. This MoU was made possible, in large part, thanks to the contributions of Ambassador Narinder Kakar, Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law and Permanent Observer of the University for Peace to the United Nations.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at Pace University in New York, with the participation of H.E. Rodrigo Carazo, Ambassador of Costa Rica to the United Nations; Dr. Juan Carlos Sainz-Borgo, Dean of the University for Peace; Dr. Vanya Quiñones, Provost and EVP for Academic Affairs at Pace University; Dr. Horace Anderson, Interim Dean of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University; H.E. Narinder Kakar, UPEACE Permanent Observer to the UN; Dr. Joseph Lee, Professor and Director of the Confucius Institute at Pace University; and an important number of faculty members of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law, as well as other members of the UPEACE delegation.
In her remarks, Dr. Quiñones welcomed UPEACE to the “Pace Family,” calling the partnership an honor for Pace University. Dr. Rojas echoed her sentiments during his brief address to attending guests, during which he also recognized Pace’s global leadership as a major university in the New York metropolitan region.
Following the signing of the MoU, the UPEACE delegation was treated to a tour of the Confucius Institute at Pace University, where it had the opportunity to meet with its Director, Dr. Joseph Lee, to discuss various opportunities for collaboration, particularly considering UPEACE’s plans to open a series of academic programmes in China as early as next year.

UPEACE firma un MoU con la Universidad Pace en la ciudad de Nueva York
24 de octubre de 2018. Ciudad de Nueva York - Esta mañana, el Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, Rector de la Universidad para la Paz (UPAZ) y la Dra. Vanya Quiñones, Provost y Vicepresidente Ejecutivo para Asuntos Académicos de la Universidad Pace, firmaron un Memorando de Entendimiento con el objetivo de promover iniciativas académicas conjuntas en los campos del derecho ambiental internacional, la educación sobre el cambio climático y el derecho energético, la ley y la política de desarrollo sostenible y otros temas relacionados. Este memorando de entendimiento fue posible, en gran parte, gracias a las contribuciones del Embajador Narinder Kakar, Miembro Distinguido Superior de la Escuela de Derecho Elisabeth Haub y Observador Permanente de la Universidad para la Paz ante las Naciones Unidas.
La ceremonia de firma del MoU se llevó a cabo en la Universidad de Pace en Nueva York, con la participación de S.E. Rodrigo Carazo, Embajador de Costa Rica ante las Naciones Unidas; El Dr. Juan Carlos Sainz-Borgo, Decano de la Universidad para la Paz; La Dra. Vanya Quiñones, directora y vicepresidenta ejecutiva de asuntos académicos de la Universidad de Pace; Dr. Horace Anderson, decano interino de la Escuela de Derecho Elisabeth Haub de la Universidad de Pace; S.E. Narinder Kakar, Observador Permanente de la UPAZ ante las Naciones Unidas; Dr. Joseph Lee, profesor y director del Instituto Confucio de la Universidad Pace; y un número importante de miembros del profesorado de la Escuela de Derecho de Elisabeth Haub, así como otros miembros de la delegación de la UPAZ.
En sus comentarios, la Dra. Quiñones dio la bienvenida a UPAZ a la "Familia Pace", calificando a la asociación como un honor para la Universidad Pace. El Dr. Rojas hizo eco de sus sentimientos durante su breve discurso ante los invitados, durante el cual también reconoció el liderazgo global de Pace como una universidad importante en la región metropolitana de Nueva York.
Tras la firma del memorando de entendimiento, la delegación de UPAZ realizó un recorrido por el Instituto Confucio de la Universidad de Pace, donde tuvo la oportunidad de reunirse con su director, el Dr. Joseph Lee, para discutir varias oportunidades de colaboración, en particular considerando los planes de UPAZ de abrir una serie de programas académicos en China tan pronto como el próximo año.
