San Jose, 3 July 2017. This week, the University for Peace welcomed 12 new students who will be participating in the Doctoral Programme.
UPEACE’S Full-time Doctorate is a research degree to develop professionals’ research expertise in their chosen area of interest. Thus, the Full-time (Research) Doctorate primarily prepares graduates for a future in academia. This track requires candidates to remain in Costa Rica for the duration of the programme, which is designed to be completed in 3 years.
The Part-time Doctorate is conceived as a programme with a particular focus on applied research (or research done for professional purposes). The Part-time (Professional) Doctorate is aimed at those candidates pursuing primarily professional, rather than academic, careers. However, the Part-time Doctorate requires the same level of academic rigor as its full-time counterpart. These candidates are not required to remain at the UPEACE headquarters in Costa Rica for the duration of the programme. This programme is designed to be completed in 4 years.
This year’s Doctorate cohort is comprised of six men and six women, all from different countries including: Botswana, Japan, Ukraine, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, USA, India, Colombia, Costa Rica, Togo, and the Ivory Coast. Seven of them will be doing the Part-time Programme and the rest will be doing full-time research in Costa Rica.
